picture books - they’re not just for kids

When someone inquires, ‘What is your favorite book of all time?’ The answer often returns after reaching back into childhood and pulling forth the title of a book saturated with illustrations.

A picture book.

The adventure, the story, the laughs, the magic, the artwork, the imagination! These beautiful books expand us in playful ways and leave lasting impressions. When we needed to feel brave, silly, empathetic, unique, understood, or understanding - picture books were there for us.

They still are.

Honestly, as adults, we need them even more. Their pages pack so much in a compact and digestible way, and also, they’re FUN! Stories of kindness, sharing, honesty, acceptance, viewing the world through a bigger lens, endless possibility, and reaching for the stars. These are the stories we infuse into children, yet, we’ve forgotten them as adults.

Picture books remind us.

They remind us to slow down, notice the magic, dream big, be unique, and have FUN!

So the next time you’re in a bookstore, resist picking up the latest self-help tome. Instead, meander to the back where books contain more pictures than words.

Here imagination rules supreme and your inner 5-year-old will return to remind you of who you really are.
